After our Maharlika video and eating that duck egg, I had to go for a walk. So I thought, why not talk to the camera about two blocks that recapitulate the history of the neighborhood?

Josh, are you sick in this video and the last? You seem a bit diffident. Just wondering!

This is your milieu. You’ve found your voice. The segments are long enough, the filming superior and, despite the duck egg, the topics are initially interesting. Your trip through the East Village is a gem. You’ve always been entertaining and informative, but mow you are both and more. Time is the key. As a writer of 30 second television commercials, I know. Keep them coming. Tell us stuff we didn’t know about a city we obviously know too little of.

    : I had just eaten a balut!

I thought this one was too long. Even I can’t listen to myself breathlessly pontificate for six minutes running. Three minutes tops next time.

Well done, as always. I think the breathless pontification is a thing of beauty. Don’t second guess yourself. More is definitely more with you. Part Two of the tour should be SEVEN minutes, at least…

Josh, you should do personally guided tours of your favorite areas of NYC. Know that you would have at least one taker.

People seem to really like this video. I am surprised. Pleasantly surprised.

Mr. Ozersky, you should do a Serious Eats neighborhood guide—they would be honored.

    I’m sure they would!

Easy Ed can do a fine guide on his own……

[...] Cigars. Local chowhound Josh Ozersky doesn’t seem to be a fan of the smoking lounge: on a video tour of the East Village, he says it represents the “douchebag-slash-trustafarian aspect” of the neighborhood [...]

Joshua, I didn’t know where else to reach you, so please pardon me. I loved your still-warm steakhouse article, but I wish you’d get off the pink slime hate train. Clearly it’s a little bit weird, and probably worsens the texture of store-bought hamburger (making it too close and meatloafy), but it’s not unhealthy, dangerous, etc. etc. And while we bask in the glory of our LaFrieda White Label blend, why not let the rest of America enjoy its pink slime?

    Joshie!
Nice job calling out the terrible ramen joint! Love the ending. Keep it up Cutty.

    Yrs.

I agree with Dennis. You have hit your sweet spot with this one. Your pontificating is always insightful and entertaining, and your employment of metaphor is superlative. Keep them coming, and thanks to Underground Eats !

    Wonderful, brilliant as usual Josh.

Great video brotha, make them longer as your fans do enjoy. BTW best egg cream is on a tropical island you never visit:
