Episode 10047:What Got Me Banned From Momofuku

Anthony Bourdain’s newest book, officially launches tomorrow. However, a couple weeks ago, Grub Street published an excerpt from the book that had a less-than-accurate account of what got me banned from the Momofuku restaurants.  At least, what the proximate cause was; I’m not too dense to see that it was really my “boundary issues” that caused the trouble to begin with. Still, it’s worth clearing up.

Good for you mate !!

trying to please everyone and being liked is highly overrated. Its not like u were told a secret to keep in confidence. Then i would call you an ass. Investigating and writing about what you find is always fair game. I may or may not be banned from alinea for telling achatz to shut up(oh and i absolutely idolize his cuisine). Havent tried to make reservations yet, so i’m not sure.lol. But hte difference is i’m not in the public eye, you are, so it makes it bigger than it needs to be. Also, i LOVE bourdain, but i hate it when he starts whoring and name dropping for his books. but i guess i love him cuz he is a whore. oh well.

Good for you Josh. You’ve always impressed me as tough, take-no-bullshit kind of guy, but I never imagined you to be such a street fighter. Such sharp elbows. Ouch.

Illegitimi non carborundum.

I cannot say a kind word about Chang! I have eaten at several of his restaurants and they were good but I’ve had better. Moreover, Ko, while good, does not come close to warranting the aggravation needed to get in the door. Let’s not forget the draconian cancellation policy which could result in a party of four being changed $600 if the member who made the reservation is unable to attend dinner (even if they have someone to go in his place). Add to that that the cancellation fee is higher than the price of the meal! Oh, and I received a very terse email when I asked about taking photographs in the restaurant. They are far too full of themselves for me to take them seriously. There are myriad restaurants in NYC in which I can enjoy a meal where I am treated as a valued guest. Chang’s empire is not among those however!
