I know I am getting the reputation as a nabob or curmudgeon, what with my anti-turkey rant and everything, but I really do think cupcakes could be made more intelligently.

Interesting solution but the aesthetic is ruined…the cupcake needs frosting on the top otherwise it looks like a cookie.

As a person who doesn’t like cake, I don’t understand the whole cupcake phenomenon. I especially don’t understand how one cupcake company is going public on the stock market. Only a fool would buy stock in a fad.

Figures Hostess had it right the whole time.

Josh – If you took the time to do your homework before you get on camera, you’d come off a lot more intelligently. it’s Mark Zuckerberg not Zuckerman. You’re a journalist, a bit of research would help. You wouldn’t get the name of a restaurant incorrect in your Time magazine reviews, would you?

Preach, too much icing destroys the cake, which is my favorite part of the venture. The cupcake is played-out. It’s all about cookies in 2011. However, I nominate Billy’s as the best in show for cupcakes.

PS @Chris, this is food tv, not cnbc, who really cares about zuck’s name.

I agree 150%…but I noticed you remembered ‘the pretty girl at the cupcake place’ so maybe that is the answer…they have pretty girls selling them????

First of all, shave! Facial hair in 2011 is way farther past its prime than cupcakes. Secondly, get over it! In this day and age of recession, job loss, and general doom and gloom, if a small overly frosted (in your opinion) dessert makes people happy, if even for a matter of minutes, who are you to criticize? Wait… I get it! Like FB and Crumbs going public, you are just mad you didn’t think of it first! VIVA La CUPCAKE! Carpe Cupcake! Stop “hating” on the small ways Joe Public finds his little bit of sunshine.

Viva la whoopie pie….

So what you are recommending is what millions of people have been doing for years??? And who says something has to be symmetrical to be natural?

Sidenote: I don’t have a beard for frosting to get stuck in… must be more natural for me then huh?

I really don’t understand the cupcake hatred thing. You don’t HAVE to eat them and if they bring happiness to people, what’s wrong with them?

They’re not ‘stupid and ill-constructed,’ they taste good and they look good. I do agree some places put too much frosting on and it becomes overpowering but they’re not all like that. And you’re solution is ‘stupid,’ you do turn it upside down and you can’t personalise it. The thing I love about cupcakes is that they’re like little works of art. I would say I am a cake artist, I don’t just make cakes that taste good, I make them aesthetically beautiful/fun etc.

But hey, that’s just me. I’m not going to hold it against people who don’t like cupcakes, so why should people hold it against those that love them?

The public is expected to take a “report” like this seriously? This coming from a man who’s so unkempt in appearance he looks like a street person? Good lord, I’d have second thoughts just letting you enter my shop. Maybe if you clean yourself up, you know, shower & shave once in while, you might garner a bit more respect.

I frigin love this site and videos…hahahahaha…don’t worry Josh somebody will scoop this site up soon…

Brought back memories of my Aunt’s Whoopie Pies. Always best with the icing in the middle.

I didn’t think of that…yes, there is a strong Whoopie Pie element to my inverted cupcake. I guess it needs some
frosting on the top…but thin it’s a Ring Ding!

Now that is what I call constructive criticism!

I don’t! I just want them to be better.

I just pretended not to know Zuckerberg’s name. I begrudge him universal fame. I thought Julian Assange should have been Time’s Man of the Year, myself.

Your disapproval of cupcakes based on their lack of symmetry reminds me of the character Ignatius J. Reilly from the novel, A Confederacy of Dunces.
